The elementary school students have been learning about personal hygiene in Health class. It has been one of our biggest units, and the students have been really interested in learning about it!

Keeping your body clean (hygiene) is an important part of keeping yourself healthy and helping you to feel good about yourself.  Taking pride in appearance is important to a child’s self esteem.  Personal hygiene is important in every stage of life, but good cleanliness habits start in childhood. Kids who learn what hygiene is and how to follow proper hygiene practices will be more likely to carry that into adulthood.

Personal hygiene is generally defined as cleanliness of the body and proper maintenance of personal appearance. This includes all body areas and clothing. Kids do not naturally understand the importance of personal hygiene and how to maintain it. Families are an extremely important part of children learning how to keep themselves clean. If they can start learning these healthy habits now, it will be a fantastic start to feeling self-confident and ready for each day!
