Research To Action Forum

Lexington Public Schools sent a team of five individuals to the Nebraska Department of Education Research to Action Forum entitled Building the Bridge Between Equity Education and School Leadership for Learning.  Nebraska's Education Commissioner, Dr. Roger Breed, addressed the group and encouraged participants to be prepared to learn from National Experts in the field of Equity Education.  

First Dr. Bradly Scott, from the Intercultural Development and Research Association, shared ways in which a school district could decrease their dropout rates by completing a Quality School Holding Power Checklist and then working on the ways in which a school district could improve on areas found on the check list.  Next Dr. Thomas Peacock, from Minnesota, shared stories from a book which he has written entitled, To Be Free.  Finally, the team was introduced to Using Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Teaching to Win (CLR) by Dr. Sharroky Hollie.  Dr. Hollie has a four day training in which teachers are instructed on CLR elements that validates, affirms, illuminates, inspires, and motivates all students.  

The Lexington participants were Alma Becerra, Migrant Recruiter; Adrianna Carnes, MS ELL Teacher; Barre Hassan, District Interpreter; Julie Otero, Assistant Superintendent; and Deb Ponec from Creighton University who is partnering with LPS on her sabbatical.   The team began to develop a plan of action for the school district.
