5065 Bed Bugs

5065 Bed Bugs

Students found to have bed bugs will be removed from the classroom and inspected by the school nurse.  Any bugs found should be removed and collected for identification.  If an active bed bug is discovered, the student’s parent(s) or guardian(s) will be notified, and prompt, proper treatment will be required.  Any other students residing in the same household or otherwise at risk of infection should be inspected as soon as possible after the initial diagnosis.

The student will not be excluded from school the day of the diagnosis unless the student has been diagnosed previously and attempts at treatment have failed. The school nurse shall re-examine a recently infected student as necessary to assess the effectiveness of the treatment and communicate that information to parents/guardians. No healthy child shall be excluded from or allowed to miss school time because of bed bugs unless efforts to remedy an infestation have been unsuccessful.

The school will not be closed due to a bed bug presence.  If pest management is necessary, it will be provided to affected areas of the school.
