Critical Thinking Solving Mysteries

Following recent weeks of learning and practicing strategies to assist with their NeSA reading assessment, Advanced Literacy students have been practicing critical thinking.  Students studied different types of fallacies that weaken an argument or evidence.  Utilizing short mystery scenarios, students searched for evidence, made a claim, and then backed up the claim with a rule or warrant.

Furthermore, students are constructing letters to the Nebraska Senators in the U.S. Congress about a current issue.  In their letter they will define a problem or challenge and their assertion.  Students will defend their assertion with two valid points along with adequate support, and possible idea or suggestion for a solution.
