Flocabulary to the Rescue

October 30, 2015

As students in English II CT begin a unit on short stories, they must review the elements of fiction.  In the past, the most frequent reaction to this review was boredom.  With the help of Flocabulary, that has all changed! Instead of being bored, students are excited to get to class.   In order to capture their attention, students are reviewing the elements of fiction using Rap and Hip-Hop music.  Not just any Rap or Hip-Hop, but music that is data driven, research based and aligned with the Common Core Standards.  Flocabulary is an online library containing hundreds of educational Rap and Hip-Hop songs.  Flocabulary employs teachers and artists to create music that will actually raise test scores.  Flocabulary covers curriculum including Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Vocabulary, and Social Skills.  This library provides music to enhance curriculum from grades K-12.  It even includes S.A.T. test preparation. For teachers, Flocabulary is an invaluable tool. For students, it is just plain fun.  Now when teaching the elements of fiction, the most common thing I hear is, “I can’t get that song out of my head”.  Try Flocabulary for free on Youtube.com or Flocabulary.com.
