Spring Football Workouts with the 8th Graders

April 26, 2016

With the end of the 2015-2016 school year approaching quickly, it is time to start thinking about the upcoming football season!  Some of the 8th graders, who are soon-to-be freshmen, have already begun preparing for their upcoming season by attending workouts at the Lexington Middle School on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday mornings.  The workouts have been going very smoothly as we are working on learning fundamental drills so that we can then install our foundational plays of our Triple Option offense.  We are averaging about 5 boys each morning that have been attending the workouts.  On Monday’s the quarterbacks, fullbacks and running backs have installed the drills for running our veer, midline and toss plays.  The following boys have attended some, or all, of the Monday workouts and are doing a great job: Ean Bailey, Kaleb Carpenter, John Howard, Dylan Richman, Nick Saiz & Austyn Stewart. On Wednesdays the offensive linemen are working on learning the proper technique for their different blocking assignments.  So far we have worked on our T-board & veer release steps.  The boys have also been learning how to identify and call-out the defensive linemen techniques as well.  The following boys have attended some, or all, of the Wednesday workouts and are also doing a great job: Simon Brock, Daniel Con, Cameron Gibbons, Miguel Gonzalez, Michael Green, Wilmer Hoisington, & Eli Young.  On Fridays the quarterbacks are working with the running backs and receivers and all players are improving their footwork, as well as their throwing and catching techniques.  We have installed the hitch route so far and their timing is getting good.  The following boys have attended some, or all, of the Friday workouts and are also doing a great job: Ean Bailey, Kaleb Carpenter, Christian Dominguez, John Howard, Javier Magana, Dylan Richman, Nick Saiz & Austyn Stewart.  The boys are preparing for the Chadron State Football Camp that the high school teams will be attending on June 5-8th.  Any 8th grader who is going to be a freshman next year who is interested in playing football is welcome to join us on these mornings at 7:10 in the Middle School gym.  The boys and I have been getting to know each other and are looking forward to camp and the upcoming season.
