7th Graders Reap the Rewards of Achieving Reading Goals

Over 100 seventh grade students loaded four buses and made the trek to Kearney Friday night.  Their destination was the Viaero Event Center, to watch the Tri City Storm take on the Waterloo Black Hawks.  These students earned the right to attend the hockey game as a reward for meeting their 2nd quarter Accelerated Reading goals.  During the game the kids cheered wildly, but to no avail as the Storm dropped the contest 4 to 2.  Tri City made it interesting late in the 3rd period, cutting the lead to one, but the Black Hawks added an empty netter with time running down to seal the victory.  Students spent their time between periods, sampling the food court and looking over the Tri City Storm merchandise.   Friday night was "Mechanical Bull Night" at the arena.  Kids risked life and limb to stay on the bull for 8 seconds.  No injuries were reported.   Other highlights included funnel cakes, flying hockey pucks, and free Valentino's bread sticks for our whole section.  Participating reading classes: Mrs. McKenna, Mrs. Maloley, Mrs. Risinger, Mrs. Roberts, Ms. Robbins, Mrs. Straka, Mrs. Andrews, Mrs. Hanna, Mr. Ridenour and Mr. Kuecker.
